    Head-coupled perspective in computer games

    Get PDF
This work presents the new method of interaction in computer application, especially firstand third-person player games. The new control technique called “Head-Aim” is based on Head-Coupled Perspective imagery method and can be used as an independent method of aiming in games as alternative to conventional targeting (with use of popular control devices like computer mouse or gamepad) or combined with them, extending their functionality and interaction realism. Proposed pointing method can also be used in non-game application to allow people control them even if they are unable to use regular control devices. Effectiveness of Head-Aim technique was compared with convetional methods of aiming in specially designed game named “Facepace”. Promising results of these tests are presented. Also a robust, fast and computationally cheap method of head tracking is proposed. Presented algorithm combines background subtrakction and new color-based tracking method enabling tracking user’s head under various lightning conditions. Method allows Head-Coupled Perspective technique to be performed without latencies even with use of a low quality webcam and enables viewing scene in 3D (and use of presented Head Aim method) on every machine, without use of glasses or special devices

The effect of contrasting selected graphical elements of a web page on information retrieval time

    Get PDF
As online presence plays an increasingly important role in corporate success, the high usability of a company’s website becomes one of its most valuable assets. The time required to reach the needed information, which plays a key role among the many factors that influence a website’s usability, depends to a significant degree on the site’s design. The perception of the visual aspects of design is in turn influenced by various so-called “visual means”. This term encompasses a range of methods, procedures or techniques of using elements of graphical design to achieve the desired effect, which should be applied according not only to the informational content of the site, but also to the designer’s overall vision, i.e. the graphical layout of the site. Therefore, it can be said that a usable website design is largely dependent on the site’s composition, understood as maintaining the appropriate relations between its form and content. One of methods for increasing the visibility of a given graphical element is highlighting its distinctness, difference from other elements. This method is called contrasting. This article presents the methodology and a discussion of the results of original research into the impact of contrasting chosen text elements on the home page of a website on the time needed by a user to reach the information "privileged" by such a procedure

Interactive 3D architectural visualization with semantics in web browers

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on rendering, and access to visual and descriptive information about the digital architectural models on the Web. It was proposed to reach these contents with a help of deep linking, which allows to access to different views and descriptions from both the internal navigation system or from the browser, or search engine. Along with the HTML5 and WebGL it allows updating the link during the exploration of a virtual model, and remembers to re-use. Although all the methods were tested on architecture's models, it can be used in other interactive 3D applications

Derivation of the formula for the filtration coefficient by application of Poiseuille's law in membrane transport

    Get PDF
On the basis of Kedem-Katchalsky equations a mathematical analysis of volume flow (Jv) of a binary solution through a membrane (M) is presented. Two cases of transport generators have been considered: hydrostatic (Dp) as well as osmotic (DP) pressure difference. Based on the Poiseuille's law we derive the formula for the membrane filtration coefficient (Lp) which takes into account the membrane properties, kinetic viscosity and density of a solution flowing across the membrane. With use of this formula we have made model calculations of the filtration coefficient Lp and volume flow Jv for a polymer membrane in the case when the solutions on both sides of the membrane are mixed

Effect of Leptin Gene Polymorphism on Fattening and Slaughter Value of Line 990 Gilts

The study was aimed at defining leptin gene polymorphism and its potential association with values of particular features of fattening and slaughter value of gilts of Line 990. The study included a total of 208 gilts. The polymorphic locus in LEP gene was identified by the restriction enzyme HinfI in 3469 position, by using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment-length polymorphism (PCR–RFLP) method. Two alleles of LEP gene were identified: T (0.94) and C (0.06), resulting in two genotypes: TC (0.12) and TT (0.88). We did not observe any gilts of CC genotype. The analysis of values of fattening and slaughter features, depending on LEP genotype did not reveal significant differences in body mass increase, daily gain from day 63 to 180, and daily gain from birth to day 180, feed conversion per 1 kg body mass and the loin-eye thickness. Significant differences between the LEP genotypes were present for such features as the backfat thickness at points P2 (p ⪬ 0.05) and P4 (p ⪬ 0.01) and average backfat thickness (p ⪬ 0.01) in favour of TT genotype. We noted higher average values of lean meat content in carcass in favour of TT homozygotes, compared to the heterozygotes (p ⪬ 0.05). The investigation contributes additonal information regarding LEP gene polymorphism in gilts of Line 990. Knowledge of LEP genotypes may be useful to improve the slaughter value in gilts primarily due to less fatness. Due to the lack of individuals representing CC genotype in our results, research should continue on a larger population

The relationship between seminal plasma aspartate aminotransferase activity, sperm osmotic resistance test value, and semen quality in boars

    Get PDF
The relationship between the activity of aspartate aminotransferase (AspAT) in seminal plasma and the values of the osmotic resistance test (ORT) of acrosomal membranes and semen traits was examined on 120 young hybrid Pietrain and Duroc boars. The following semen quality traits were determined: the volume of the ejaculate, the percentage of spermatozoa with progressive motility, sperm concentration and the total number of spermatozoa in the ejaculate, percentage of spermatozoa with normal acrosome, the percentage of spermatozoa with major and minor morphological defects, ORT, and the activity of AspAT in seminal plasma. The activity of AspAT in seminal plasma was negatively correlated (p_0.01) with the spermatozoa concentration and total number per ejaculate, percentage of spermatozoa with progressive motility and percentage of spermatozoa with a normal acrosome, while positively with the percentage of spermatozoa with major (p≤0.001) and minor (p≤0.01) morphological defects. The ORT values negatively correlated with the percentage of spermatozoa with major (p≤0.05) and minor (p≤0.01) morphological defects, while positively (p≤0.001) with the percentage of spermatozoa with a normal acrosome

The article provides an overview and analysis of various forms of commerce in the three-dimensional virtual worlds. It takes into account technological, economic and psychological factors. The article tries to classify business models based on the roles of actors involved in trade and on the nature of virtual worlds. These issues are illustrated from the transformation perspective of the Web 2.0 site, and in the future 3D Internet

On the basis of Kedem-Katchalsky equations a mathematical analysis of volume flow (Jv) of a binary solution through a membrane (M) is presented. Two cases of transport generators have been considered: hydrostatic (Δp) as well as osmotic (Δπ) pressure difference.
